On the 26th of September, Sure Secure held a highly informative seminar on Generative AI Governance in the Government Sector at the Tyson’s Tower Club, featuring distinguished guest speakers Roopangi Kadakia and Dr. Safi Mojidi. Both speakers, with their extensive experience as IT leaders in the public sector, brought highly valuable insights to the seminar, offering a deep understanding of the critical issues surrounding AI governance and implementation in government institutions.
Roopangi Kadakia provided an in-depth introduction to the existing landscape of generative AI models and shared insightful case studies showcasing various AI applications in the public sector. These included the use of AI for smart traffic management in Singapore, fraud detection by the Department of State, and AI for environmental monitoring and protection as used by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Roopangi also raised important concerns about security threats posed by AI, such as deepfakes in politics and media, AI hallucinations spreading misinformation, and the risk of big data being used to weaponize inequality.
Dr. Safi Mojidi’s session focused more on developing safe and effective AI governance frameworks, referencing key documents like the NIST AI Risk Management Framework and CISA‘s roadmap for Artificial Intelligence and guidance for secure deployment of AI systems. He shared examples of AI implementation across sectors such as healthcare, transportation, and benefits delivery, and discussed emerging trends in AI policy and regulation, including state-level legislation aimed at preventing algorithmic discrimination, and California’s AI Transparency Act.
Attendees had the opportunity to engage with the speakers on these crucial topics and left with valuable insights into the practical applications of AI in Government, as well as the risks and challenges it presents. As AI continues to evolve, it is clear that governance will play a pivotal role in ensuring ethical and effective applications. Sure Secure looks forward to continuing this vital conversation, fostering collaboration on the future of AI governance in the public sector.
