Job Summary:

The Telecommunications Mechanic I will play a crucial role in maintaining and improving communications infrastructure. The position involves installing, testing, troubleshooting, programming, maintaining, and repairing various communications systems, including voice and non-voice systems, public address systems, alarm systems, and digital switching equipment. The candidate will work with a diverse range of telecommunications and electronic systems to ensure seamless operation.

Responsibilities:

  • Install, remove, test, troubleshoot, and repair voice and non-voice communications systems, including intercom, public address, and alarm systems.
  • Maintain and repair digital switching equipment, power and ringing relay racks, and attendant consoles.
  • Analyze system failures to isolate sources, identifying issues caused by software, hardware, or other factors.
  • Run cables and key cables to telephone sets, terminal connectors, and associated equipment.
  • Maintain manual and computerized central office records, including traffic analysis, cable records, and spare parts inventories.
  • Program and maintain electronic and electromechanical telephone key systems, PBXs, and data circuits.
  • Troubleshoot and repair terminal and communications equipment, including line drivers and other related apparatus.

Required Skills:

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of telecommunications systems and the ability to perform system diagnostics and repairs.
  • Strong analytical skills to isolate issues in complex systems.
  • Experience maintaining detailed records and inventories.
